Christmas Island is an Australian territory in the Indian Ocean. Due to its isolation, the island is ecologically unique. Although once part of a British colony, it came under Australian control in 1958. Christmas Island issued its own postage stamps independently from Australia until 1993. However, in 1993 Australia assumed postal authority and stamps issued for Christmas Island could now be used by both entities. Stamps in this packet mainly focus on fauna and flora as well as local history. They can be inscribed Christmas Island, Christmas Island/Indian Ocean and Christmas Island/Australia.
