Description
When the postmasters and the public complained about the similarity in color of the 50 cents (# 120a) stamps issued on January 26, 1912 and the brown 3 cents (# 108) issue of August 6, 1918, a change became necessary. Postmasters also found that the brown 3-cent stamps were difficult to post effectively. As a result, carmine colored stamps of the same denomination replaced the brown issue.
