Description

Once the haven of pirates and privateers, Mahone Bay now attracts tourists and sightseers. Located in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, it is the site of one of the first German settlements in North America. The town derives its name from the French word "Mahonne", the long, low vessels that brought booty for burial on any one of the 365 islands in the area. Legend has it that Captain Kidd hid his treasure here in the Bay, on Oak Island.
