Thailand - Stamp Packet

Thailand is an independent country that lies in the heart of Southeast Asia. It is bordered to the north by Burma and Laos, to the east by Laos and Cambodia, to the south by the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and to the west by the Andaman Sea and the southern extremity of Burma. Its maritime boundaries include Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand to the southeast and Indonesia and India in the Andaman Sea to the southwest.The country's official name was Siam ] when it was changed to Thailand. It was then renamed Siam from 1945 to May 11, 1949, after which it was again renamed Thailand. Before the establishment of postal service in 1884, the availability of mail service is rather limited, mostly to the royals. Domestic mails were handled by messengers while international mails were placed in steamboat to post offices in nearby countries, such as Straits Settlements. In 1858, the British Consulate in Bangkok opened a post office, offering international mail services to the public.
